Two 1000 watt PV arrays
PV and Solar Hot Water
6 x ASE 100 solar modules (600 watts), 400 amp/hr sealed batteries, Trace Engineering 2.4 Kilowatt modified sine wave inverter.
This system supplies electricity for the Master Gardeners office. It was installed during the Olympia Solar Pioneers project. The project was made possible by a grant from The International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLIE) and The City of Olympia. The system has functioned without repair or charging from an external source since December of 1999. The electrical portion of the project cost approximately $8000. The estimate to trench grid power from the nearest transformer to the office was $8240.
PSE grid tied 2.7 kW array, 18 panels of 150 watts Shell Solar panels (SQ150 PC), with 2500U Sunny Boy inverter

There are both solar electric and solar hot water systems on the site. The solar hot water system provides roughly half of the domestic hot water needs on an annual basis. The system has a 4 X 10 foot flat panel collector, 80 gallon storage tank with heat exchanger and a gas-fired on demand water heater for backup.
The solar electric system with 6 Sanyo 190 watt solar modules covering 81 square feet with a Xantrex GT3.0 inverter will offset approximately 90% of our annual electric bill due to the new Washington incentive program for installation of small scale solar electric systems.
