System Description:
On this site are (4) homes that are under construction. They are all 5-star Built Green, Passive Solar, insulated far beyond Code and at least one will strive for "Passive House" certification. The advanced framing system on that home, the original farmhouse, will be complete in time for the Solar Tour. On October 3rd, we would like to offer "Behind the Walls" tours to show people how to achieve high energy efficiency in a home, which is the low-hanging fruit before solar equipment is added. Besides wall assemblies that will achieve R-30, and an attic that will have R-60, we are including a new generation of quadruple-glazed high R-value windows, manufactured in the western US. Three double car garage roofs have living roofs as part of our storm water strategy. These roofs will be completed, including planting, before the tour. Modeled after the Queen City Eco Village, Fish Singer Place will also have a pervious pavement road, large cisterns, and vegetable gardens. Located on several bus lines, the site has a walking score of 77. Even though solar equipment is not in place, this location is very pertinent to the annual Solar Tour.
