CELEBRATE AND SELF-EDUCATE! Over 100 homes on the Olympic Peninsula have gone solar in the last 5 years. The solar tour is a free self-guided event where you can speak to homeowners about their first hand experience with solar power. Three of the eleven homes on the tour are pictured above.
LOCATION: Various Sites in Jefferson County, most located in Port Townsend (click here for more info).
KICK-OFF EVENT: Power Trip Energy Shop, 2343 Thomas Street, Port Townsend, where you can attend educational classes on solar power, pick up maps to the tour sites, see 5 different solar power systems functioning on one farm, and play with a remote controlled solar car. Travel to the kick-off event by walking or bicycle and enter your name for a gift certificate donated by PT Cyclery.
CLASSES:
11 am 12 noon: Solar PV - Spin Your Meter Backwards Learn about the history of solar electricity (photo voltaic or PV for short), modern battery-less grid tied solar PV systems, Washington States solar financial incentives program, and how you can get involved in making your own electricity and selling the excess power to the utility. Presenter: Andy Cochrane, Power Trip Energy.
12:30 pm 1:30 pm: Working with Your Utility to Generate Solar Power and Conserve Energy Learn how Puget Sound Energy and other utilities in Washington State are making it easier for their customers to generate their own solar electricity, to buy green energy, and to conserve energy, including special programs for business energy conservation. Presenters: Jake Wade and Andy Wappler, Puget Sound Energy.
2 pm 3 pm: Solar Thermal Making Hot Water From the Sun Learn how you can use the heat of the sun to pre-heat domestic water and even provide space heating assistance for radiant floor systems. Presenters: Andy Cochrane and Erik Wennstrom, Power Trip Energy.
