SYSTEMS

Active solar - Photovoltaic

8 x ASE 100 solar modules (800 watts), 10.8 Kw lead acid battery bank, Trace Engineering 4 Kilowatt sine wave inverter.

This system supplies electricity for the business web servers.  System autonomy was designed to be one work week (40 hours). The system has full grid tie capability.  All the power harvested is used on site. This eliminates the need to feed the grid.  There is an active, interpretive amp hour display in the coffee tasting room.  B&Bs commitment to renewables is outstanding and is to be commended.  The system was originally built with 400 watts of solar in 1999 and commissioned just before Y2K.  The next 400 watts of PV was installed in 2001.  Installation was completed the day of the Nisqually Earthquake.  The system has been running ever since.

Year completed: 1999

The following is from their web site which the title is linked to:

Batdorf & Bronson is proud to be America's first 100% Green Powered Coffee Company!
Green Power is electricity generated from renewable, non-polluting resources. These resources include wind, solar, geothermal, landfill gas, wave or tidal action or hydropower generated by fish-friendly facilities. These are natural forces that can be harvested without releasing pollutants into the air we breathe. Green Power is an option that consumers can choose through their local utility. The more people purchase Green Power, the less we will have to rely on energy that has been created from the burning of fossil fuel. When fewer pollutants are released into the atmosphere, everyone benefits.

We have received several awards for our sustainable business practices. To view an award click on a title below:
